ILLINOIS

As the 6th most populous state in the nation, Illinois is home to more than 12 million people. Consisting of 102 counties; Illinois has one major metropolitan area (Chicago) and many smaller key urban communities. 

2025 Attainment Goal: 60%

2025 Current Attainment Rate: 51%

 

INDIANA

As the 17th most populous state in the nation, Indiana is home to more than 6 million people. Consisting of 92 counties; Indiana has four key metropolitan areas (Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Evansville, and South Bend).

2025 Attainment Goal: 60%

2025 Current Attainment Rate: 41.9%

 

MICHIGAN

As the 10th most populous state in the nation, Michigan is home to more than 10 million people. Consisting of 83 counties; Michigan has five key metropolitan areas (Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Saginaw).

2025 Attainment Goal: N/A

2025 Current Attainment Rate: 43.7%

 

OHIO

As the 7th most populous state in the nation, Ohio is home to more than 11 million people. Consisting of 88 counties, 32 of them are within the Appalachian region. Ohio has eight key urban areas (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo, Youngstown, Akron, and Canton); also known as the Urban 8. 

2025 Attainment Goal: 65%

2025 Current Attainment Rate: 44.1%

 

PENNSYLVANIA

As the 5th most populous state in the nation, Pennsylvania is home to more than 12 million people. Consisting of 67 counties, 52 of them are within the Appalachian region. Pennsylvania has five key metropolitan areas (Erie, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and York). The Midwest Alliance will focus its effort within 27 western-Pennsylvania counties (Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Cameron, Centre, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, McKean, Mercer, Somerset, Venango, Warren, Washington, and Westmoreland).
